G & S Timber
Here you can learn to woodturn. Please contact them for when their next turning/training course or exhibition will be. At G&S you can purchase machinery, tools, and of course many varities of English as well as exotic timbers. There is also a tea room and gift shop. They also have a good range of clothing, as well as alpaca goods


Fine Wood Workshop
Here you can learn the art of fine furniture making. Please contact Mr Richard Harrison via his website for when his next courses will be.


The house and gardens open on the 1st of April and close on the 31st of October. It is in a lovely location and well worth a visit. There are many events on during the year, including dog ability, a historic vehicle show, plant and food fair, and of course Pot Fest in the Park a not to be missed event.

The Marmalade Festival
This is most successful and now an event for anyone's calendar, and we as guest house proprietors have enjoyed the experience and hope it will continue for many years to come.
This year 2016 the festival weekend is the 17th March 2018
We are adding this to our visitor attractions because it is well worth a visit. Please log on to the website for more information and their full list of events for this coming year of 2016.


Further to the above on the Marmalade Festival, Dalmain has other events during the year such as in May, a Fell Pony Show and Vintage Tractor Rally.
In June there is The Cumbria Life & Dalmain Garden Festival and much. much more. There is something on each month from May until September and we would be glad to accommodate you for any of these occasions. Please log on to the web address above for more information


The Eden valley
The Old School is in the Eden Valley District. Here you will find plenty of visitor attractions. There are many events during the year, local shows, festivals, farmers markets, craft fairs etc. There are golf courses, fishing, walking, Museums, Castles, and Adrians Wall is not far away. Please log on to the web address above for all information on the area. The local information office will send you a brochure on request. Once again we will be glad to accommodate you here in our Guest House.


This area is renown for its beauty in its hills, climbing and walks. Here you can fish, canoe, windsurf and sail on the lake via the steamers.

"The Ullswater Association" brochure lists "Things to do" as well as places to eat, shop, as well as a list of Hotels, Guest Houses and B&B's. As many people must know by now of the devastation here in our valley, we are asking people to LOVE ULLSWATER and keep coming to this area to support all traders and businesses. There are new stickers and logo's(see ours on each page of our website) coming out to promote our area as well as rest of Cumbria.


Kewsick Theatre
This theatre was originally "The Blue Box Theatre" by the lake in Keswick. When re-built it was opened by Dame Judy Dench and her late husband Michael Williams. This venue has many good productions, we ourselves have enjoyed a pantomime there as well as some regular guests of ours to "The Old School" who come a few times each year to visit the theatre. There are 2 potfest shows. One is at "Hutton-in-the-forest" which is known as "Potfest in the Park" 27th to 29th July 2018 and the second is called "Potfest-in-the-Pens" 3rd to 5th of August 2018 which is held at PFK auction site by the M6 motorway roundabout in Penrith.
At these shows there are potters from all over the world displaying hand thrown pots. All shapes and sizes for use in the home or garden. For more information please log on to the website for more details.


The Castle and gardens were opened in 2011. Work began in 2010 to restore the gardens to their former glory, and on going work can be seen by the public on progress of work. The castle is not to be restored but stabilized. There has been much work done since 2010. There is now a tearoom open as well as exhibition space. The gardens are moving forward and well worth a visit. For example "The Lowther Show" is on the 11th & 12th of August 2018 with Horse driving trials, hounds, country displays, food and drink, lots for the family to do. with plenty of shopping. Distant Horizons UK Ltd
This company new to our area are based at "Leeming Farm" at Watermillock. Their activities are based around the water, mountains, team development, technical courses, wilderness trips and challenge avents.


The brochure for 2018 has now been published. This is a go-ahead venue where you can do an all-day courses with refreshments provided. Please look up their website for full details. We are situated near the workshops and could accommodate you for B&B or DBB if required.


The Westmorland Agricultural Show
This show is on a Thursday and much bigger than either the Skelton and Penrith shows, but well worth the visit,
13th September 2018.

Eden Valley Attractions

Theatre by the Lake
This was the old blue box theatre, it was reopened by Judy Dench and Michael Williams. It is a thriving theatre and open all year with many well known stars appearing there. There is also a new coffee shop opening very soon.


The SKELTON Agricultural Show
A local show nearby, showing all farm animals, horse events, stalls, children's amusements, beer and food tents, ice-cream, clothing, and much more. 7th July 2018

Ullswater Way
The Ullswater Way is a stunning 20 mile walk around Ullswater. The route can be walked in either direction and from any starting point. Why not walk the route in shorter sections, using an open top bus or steamer to start your journey.
